J44 invader info wtd
« on: July 17, 2005, 10:48:21 AM »
I currently own a J44 invader mk II running a non crossflow 4.1 falcon with a 2 stage colorado explorer.
I am interested in finding out as much as I can about the J44, any history relating to J44, pictures etc.
Also the aproxamate year of manufacture for my boat (hopefully pictured below).
Any information would be greatly apprecated.? ? ? ?

Probably a few article's in NZJBA magazines. Canterbury public library has heaps of them. Be warned... you'll spend hours reading through them. Bloody good reading.  :)
Kimi destroyed Montoya's career and scared Michael into retirement.

Your boat looks identical to mine. This would make it a Mark 2 although I hear some people referring to a Mark 3.
This would put date of manufacture around the late 70's to early 90's.
These boats were built by Bruce Binnie (recently deceased) and according to an article in the NZJBA mag, he made over 1000 of them.
He then started building the very popular Impala but continued to build the 44 to order for some time.
Other members will know a lot more about them than I do but they are a one of the greats.
often critisised for their so called slippery handling characteristics, those of us that own one know that this isn't true and that they are a very capable boat.
They have very slow planing speeds and good high speed stability and will boat over wet stones without touching them.
Don't remove the side rails as this makes them handle like a dog.

Yours looks like a very nice original boat.

Hi Carl j44, Congratulations on getting one of the best jetboats ever produced, As suggested by Tony T by the looks of your boat it is one of the last of the mkII's as the top deck styling is the shape of the mkIII, yours was prob made approx 1980/82, cos Rod Harrison won the first ever televised Jet Sprint in 1982 with a MkIII 44 :D :D :D.
In my 44 which is a early mkII I'm running a 245 Hemi coupled to a 3 stage colorado, as with Tony I agree with his words, the 44 are a class of their own the only down side to them is that if you're in shallow water and turning it does expose the chine to potentional damage but will slide over shallower water in a straight line than any other boat I know, as some people who have followed me on this site have found out!!!!! ;) ;) ;) ;) I hope this helps ?;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
