Hamilton Rainbow
The Rainbow jet unit was one of
the first commercially available jetunit that
Hamilton made. There were only 125 ever made in
1956-57. My father Marc, bought the unit and motor
from Bill Hamilton to fit to the hull he had built.
The Hull was made of ply with aluminum screwed
and glued to the bottom. The power plant was a
Ford 100e (side valve 10HP) which if the river
was flowing too fast (ie in a flood) it was very
slow. The boat only seated two. This was one of
the early jetboats on the Waiau river.
The boat was sold in the early 1970's to person
called Harold Clark who used it around Te Anau.
He was colour blind and painted it "gray"
which was a shade of bright pink. From there we
do not know what happened to the boat.
