Lots of drama at Jetsprints Championship Final

The final of the 2009 Jetpro Jetsprinting New Zealand Championship at Featherstone on Saturday (28/03/09) provided a series of dramatic moments as boat after boat left the water. Richard Burt won his first New Zealand Championship but his day was not without incident with Burt twice taking to the land. Bevan Muir won the Chemz Group A New Zealand Championship in style, also winning the race on the day, while Dave Stone secured the NZ Lites development class Championship despite suffering a few niggles with his boat.

Keeping in the water is key at NZ Championship Final of Jetsprints

This Saturday’s final round of the Jetpro Jetsprinting NZ Championships could be the most intense yet as teams fight it out for the three national championships on offer. Keeping the boat in the water may be the biggest challenge for many of the teams vying for the championships on Saturday at Tauherenikau just north of Featherston in the Wairarapa.

Jetsprinting - Maiden win for Guthrie

Levin’s Andrew Guthrie finally broke through the physiological barrier to achieve his first win in the fiercely competitive Chemz Group A class at the fourth round of the New Zealand Championships in Hawkes Bay at the weekend (Sunday 8th March). Guthrie finished third in the 2008 NZ Championship but has had a season to forget in 2009 with a series of failures and a big roll over crash. The win on Sunday is just reward for Guthrie’s Chemz Racing Team who have soldiered on through his recent trying times. Chemz Championship leader Peter Briant had an off day, failing to make the top 8 cut after a rotation error, while less than a second separated the eight Chemz Group A teams that made the cut. Auckland’s Baden Gray secured his best result to date with second, while third place was enough for Bevan Muir of Thames to take over the Chemz Championship lead from Briant.
